Thomas Mulveal b1854 Ireland in Birkenhead & son
« on: Saturday 13 March 21 10:24 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I'm struggling to find the missing gaps for this family if anyone can assist please.
I have located on the 1881 Census Thomas Mulveal living at 23 Back Portland Street, Tranmere, Birkenhead aged 26 working as a Labourer and born in Ireland with his wife Mary Anne aged 24 also born in Ireland.
They married in 1877 - marriage lists Mulveal and Shields and more than likely took place at a Birkenhead Catholic Church than the Registry Office.
They definitely had 2 children - Thomas - birth listed as Mullvel in 1879 Birkenhead and Ann 1880 listed as Mulveal.
Although Ann is listed on the 1881 census Thomas isn't but I pick him up again via a Militia Attestation Record showing that in 1896 he was living at 47 Barnabas Street, Openshaw, Manchester and confirmed he was born in Rockferry, Birkenhead in 1879.
I am fine with the rest of Thomas (Junior's) life from 1896 onwards but I cannot find him as mentioned in 1881 or 1891 or his parents or sister in 1891 or any record of anything else (deaths of Thomas (Snr) and Mary Anne or Ann his sister or a marriage of Ann.
Any help would be appreciated as different combinations of Mul* or similar I'm not finding anything that springs out  :-\
Thanks

Hi Maggsie
I did spot that but I ruled it out with it stating she was born in 1864 as opposed to 1856 - quite a bit out 8 years but yeah was definitely in my thinking

Hi,
Mulveal isn't listed in any Ireland sites, usually Mullville, Mulville.
Do you have the marriage cert as it would give both their Fathers names.
There are sever Thomas Mulveal/vall/vale/vull all have Mary as a wife wit children Thomas and Mary, so hard to search for your family.
The marriage cert would really help.
Maggsie

Maggsie

The age at death is often only what the informant thought.
As Thomas jr married in Stockport and is living there in 1911, it seems quite possible that the death is Mary Ann.

I would have to order the Marriage Cert to help further Maggsie
Great finds "heywood"  :) :)  - at least there is some progression with Ann the other sibling and being in the Gorton area matches with her brother Thomas being that way in 1896.
Beginning to think too that Mary Ann Mulveal did die in 1920 - be good if she can be found on 1911 or 1901 though for a bit more clarification especially if she was living more Stockport/Manchester than Birkenhead
