James Rixon - b. 1840-49 - Tisbury/Devizes - help to find his family, please!

I am looking to trace back James Rixon.  This is what I have, so far:

1901 Census (Earley, Reading, Berks)
James Rixon, age 52, working in a biscuit factory, born Devizes
RG13/1151 F93 P10

1891 Census (Reading, Berks)
James Rixon, age 43, working in a biscuit factory, born Tisbury
RG12/992 F 120 P 26

1881 Census (Oxford, Oxfordshire)
James Rixon, age 32, working as a butcher, born Tisbury
RG11/1504 F104 P57

1873 - 25th March
Marriage to Annette Ives at St Mary Magdalen, Oxford.
Occupation: Butcher
Father's name: William Rixon, farm bailiff

1861 Census (Devizes, Wiltshire)
James Rixon, age 18, working as a Butcher's apprentice, born Tisbury
RG9/1293 F136 P15



I lose sight of James before his marriage.  The 1861 James has the right occupation and birthplace, but the age is completely out.  However, I can't find a James born 1847-1849 that would fit.

I'd be very grateful if anyone could shed some light on James and the possibility of his age having changed over time.

There is also a death of a James William Rixon in Reading in 1905, but again born around 1842.

Any help will be gratefully received!

I've found him in 1871 transcribed as Richard b Devizes 1845

I just wanted to ask whether you have explored the connection between James Rixon and John Rixon, the man with whom he was lodging in 1861?

On John Rixon's marriage record, his father is listed as William Rixon, agricultural labourer.

I am thinking that John is probably James' older brother. On John's baptism record in 1826 in Tisbury, his mother is listed as Anne. Carole has already listed the 1841 census.

The only discrepancy here is the age... This James Rixon was born in 1840 to William Rixon & Ann Merchant in Tisbury.
