Yes the "parents left to go overseas" may have been a cover story.

Is she the lady who died in 1983 with a birthdate of 8th May 1914.

Was there any family connection in the adoption, do you know?

She is and no there is no family connection. I’ve been able to trace her pretty well but as I said it’s her parents I’ve had trouble researching. But the above theory does make sense 👍 :)

A half hearted candidate from the free index to 1911, living in Camberwell.
William John Wallis, 47
Has the right occupation. Wife seems to have gone missing.

His wife seems to be Mary Hickling Plint, I ignored that one since she wasn’t an Emily. However, if Joan was the product of an affair then I can’t rule him out.

Quote
parents John Wallis an accountants clerk and Emily Watson

Have you the birth certificate for Joan?

Just wondering exactly how it was worded ie "mother Emily Wallis formerly Watson" as if they were married or both parents names written separately?
