Wootten / Clifford
« on: Sunday 14 March 21 17:22 GMT (UK) »
I have  tracked my father's line back to David Wootten and Eliza Clifford (maybe Cliffard) in Wiltshire.  A son Edwin Noah was baptised in June 1838 in Bromham.  From what I have been able to find, David was born approx 1810 and Eliza 1816.  They had seven children all born in England as best I can tell.  They immigrated to Canada it would seem after 1855.

I am trying to track the parents for both of David and Eliza.

Not sure if this is your David WOOTEN:

"Committed to the Old Bridewell, Devizes ...
David Wootten, charged with stealing a donkey, the property of Wm. Hatter of Bromham; also with stealing two donkeys, the property of Wm. Flower of Melksham Forest."
Thursday,  Sept. 22, 1831, Devizes and Wiltshire Gazette

Modified to add:
Actually, not sure if he is yours, as I think he was convicted and given a sentence of 7 years and 1 week.   :-\

Thanks for the feedback.  The marriage information re David and Eliza would line up with what I have been able to determine so far.  Also, the fact Eliza's father was an innkeeper is of interest as several of Edwin's children were in the same line of business in Canada and the U.S.A.

The other names provide me some leads to follow-up on.  Thanks Osprey for those possible marriage leads.

From some earlier info I had, it seems David and maybe one other sibling came to Canada but others in the family went to Australia

I have been looking at Public Member's Tree on Ancestry - who give David's parents: George WOOTTEN and Mary BLACKMAN

However???

Wiltshire England, Wills and Probate 15230-1858

Probate records of the Consistory Court of Salisbury

1848

This is the last Will and Testament of me David WOOTTEN, Yeoman and Carpenter of the Parish of Bromham in the County of Wilts.

It is extremely easy to read - and mentions is Wife Mary - (has lots of farming stock etc)

Mentions his children

Constania HASELL
Enoch WOOTTEN
Isarel WOOTTON
Stephen WOOTTON
and
David WOOTTON
