I’m doing my matthews family tree and hoping someone can help, my great grandfather was Thomas matthews who was born around 1902 he married Maria or rea as she was known, his father I think was a walter matthews who was a horse dealer which is what it says his occupation was on Tom’s and Maria marriage certificate, does anyone have any info on Tom’s father walter or mother, brothers and sisters any help would be much appreciated

Hi there
He was maybe born in Chatham
Kent but definitely lived in Dover for sometime then had scrap yard in east malling where he see out the rest of his life his father was walter matthews who was a horse dealer but have found info that walter could of been a William matthews and changed his name to walter not certain on this fact though
He married Maria/ria ransley in 1923 at age of 21/22 they had 5 boys that I no off walter my grandad, James who died young, John, Albert and Tom

Where would he have been living in 1939?

Or a Thomas William Matthews born in Maidstone Registration District in 1903?

Tom died 1980

Not sure of where he was living in 1939 but have been told that he ran away from where he was and worked as a trapeze and there is a photo of him sitting on a big horse outside a circus tent is the only info I have been giving and that maybe he was bought up by an uncle called
Funham matthews but these are just stories I have been told
