Does anyone know if there'll be a volunteer-led indexing project to go alongside and if so, who's likely to organise it?
Houghton - Lancashire, inc. Manchester
Robertson - Angus
Collinge - Yorkshire, Lancashire, USA
Nedderman - Lancashire
Lane/Fryer - Kent

I've just been going through some of the Kirkmabreck minutes to see if I can find more about my Carsons and McCraes  but, so far, all they seem to record are fornications.

I'm not a novice in regard to Sessions records and know that this is one of the main concerns, but I've not read any before that is page after page of them without any light relief.

No mention of my ancestors so far!

I saw that there was a section in SP. For kirk sessions but i couldnt understand HOW to use it

Theres an awful lot of reading about what CAN. Be found but as far as i could see you need to know the volume ref.of what you are looking for + it doesnt explain how to find it .

Could one of you kindly explain tbe steps i need to follow
For example if i want to find a paternity case between euphemia blane and david Kennedy ...how do i search
* Baby David Kennedy Blane born girvan AYR aug 1829

Go to Kirk Session. Clck on Place Search - type in Girvan . Click on Girvan and  then click on Girvan kirk session.

However, you'll then find that the digitised minutes for Girvan are only available for 1848-1875

I've just found out something I didn't know before!!!  ::)...

You need to be signed into SP to access the link...

https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/place-results?placename=barra&placetype%5B0%5D=all&record_type=pd_place_data

"Barra
A parish in the county of Ayr. It was a quoad omnia parish (a parish for civil and religious purposes). The island of Barra is in the Outer Hebrides, and the parish includes the surrounding islands. The parish was erected in 1733, when it was disjoined from South Uist."

I can't fathom how such an error could come about as Ayr is nothing like 'Inverness(-shire)" where Barra has always been (to my knowledge)  ???

Annie
South Uist, Inverness-shire, Scotland:- Bowie, Campbell, Cumming, Currie

Ireland:- Cullen, Flannigan (Derry), Donahoe/Donaghue (variants) (Cork), McCrate (Tipperary), Mellon, Tol(l)and (Donegal & Tyrone)

Newcastle-on-Tyne/Durham (Northumberland):- Harrison, Jude, Kemp, Lunn, Mellon, Robson, Stirling

Kettering, Northampton:- MacKinnon

Canada:- Callaghan, Cumming, MacPhee

Looks like two entries have been merged there  ::)

Barr is a parish in the county of Ayr… not far from where I am, as it happens.

If you browse the A to Z list, the descriptions for Barr and Barra are next to each other  ;D

Ruth
McArthur, Milne, Mitchell, Black, Robertson, Morrison, Slessor, Lawrence - Aberdeenshire/Banffshire. Muir, Waddell, Fraser, Orr, Cowden - Lanarkshire/Renfrewshire/Dunbartonshire. Dalziel, Dalzell, Gourley, Cromie, Crombie, Bell - Co Down. Lewis, Corrigan, Morris, Cox, Hay - Monmouthshire/Pembrokeshire.  Baker, Ginger, Woodhurst, Swift, Jones - Kent/London.

Not to be confused with the entry following:

Quote
Barra
An island in the Outer Hebrides and also a parish, in the county of Inverness. It was sometimes known as Barray. Do not confuse with the island of Burra (Shetland) and Burray (Orkney).
