11 AGHH
« on: Tuesday 16 March 21 16:45 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I have a friend whose father was in the RAF in WW11. He was Bomber Command. On the 4th Sept 1945 he was posted from 227 Squadron Balderton to Unit 11 AGHH.

Can anyone help with what this unit was please.

TIA Tom

Tom,AG is normally the RAF abbreviation for Air Gunner or  for example AGGTS (Air gunner ground training
school) or AGS(Air gunner school) can't find anything resembling HH yet, there was an 11 Operational conversion unit bomber command disbanded in September 1945,

I think two abbreviations have been run together on the record.  HH represents Headquarters Holding which is one of the annotations which relates to the establishment (strength) a man is held on.  HH means that where he goes to he is held temporarily until the system posts him to a more permanent place.  As there is a number at the beginning it doesn't relate to his rank or trade but I don't find an
11 AG.   Can you clip/post the original?

I'm guessing that "11 AG" is No.11 Air Gunnery School ( in the Isle of Man at that time).

ShaunJ I’d say you were on the money there. Attending a course would put the man on  H H as far as the establishment was concerned.
