Christian name in 1690 signature
« on: Wednesday 17 March 21 06:27 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I have a signature on a Welsh 1690 Bond that I'd like to identify... the surname is Williams but the abbreviated first name should be David

The Bond has identified him clearly as David Williams

I find the Initials on the signature very odd for David.... but he might have called himself Daffydd,

Your help is much appreciated...

Thanks,

Llanfi  :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Could it be Dai?

Dai is a Welsh masculine given name, a diminutive form of Dafydd (David)

It's written Da: or Dv: or Dd:
Hard to say which. All are found in docs of this period.
Whichever, it’s an abbrevation for David.

Thanks to you all!

I'll settle for David "Dd" as a slip of the quill!

There was a David Williams at the specified location at that time.

Take care,
