Gertrude Wilson
« on: Thursday 18 March 21 11:40 GMT (UK) »
Hi Hope someone can help. I have Gertrude Wilson born Cheddar, Somerset 1866. her parents were Aaron and Sarah Wilson. the 1871 census shows her with her family at Priests Row, Wells. The 1881 census shows her with the family at Bathford, Somerset. Between 1881 and 1889 I lose her.

1890 I have here in Rat Portage, (renamed Kenora 1905) Canada with her sister Agnes (Wilson ) Hawley and Gertrude is marrying William Howard. Can anyone give me anything on her between 1881-1889 especially when she immigrated to Canada.
many thanks Ken

There is a G Wilson on a passenger list Liverpool - Quebec - arriving 26 July 1887 on the Sarmatian
(no further details)
The early passenger lists give basic info but this is even less than normal so not able to positively identify someone.

No ages - as I said passenger lists of that era give little information, these were less than usual  :-\
This was anc. perhaps find my past may have something.

In the 1891 census, Gertrude and William Howard are newly married and living next door to Agnes and William Hawley.  Both men are saw mill hands in Rat Portage.   Agnes' daughter, S???, aged 10, born in Minnesota, so that couple were there first. William Hawley also born in New York.

Hi Eileen. many thanks for your response, Yes i did have that information Agnes and Gertrude were sisters. On the obit for Agnes's husband William Hawley it looks as if they arrive in Rat Portage circa 1883/1884, Agnes died of Cancer in 1894,  and her daughter Sadie Agnes was sent to live with her Aunt Amelia in England. the family were very close and William Hawley went to live  with William and Gertrude. He died at their home in 1927  Many thanks Ken
