Mesapotamia
« on: Thursday 18 March 21 14:09 GMT (UK) »
Hi, my grandad said that his unit marched into a place and he discovered that as he marched in, his uncle Albert had marched out, this can only be Mesapotamia in 1916-7. Grandads record has not survived but Alberts has, I have been trying to make sense of it.
Albert was in the 36th Brigade Royal Field Artillery 1905-08 and when he was recalled in 1914 he was a Gunner in the Royal Garrison Artillery, he was in the Expeditionary Force France 1914-15, Expd Force Mediteranean 1915-16 and Expd Force Mesapotamia 1916-18.
With the Med  Force his unit is 10 div ann park? and with the Mesopotamia Force A/55 Brigade.
Does anyone know where these units went to?   Many thanks

Sadly, the war diary for 10 Div Ammunition Park has not been digitised https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C4557964  There are other diaries relating to 10 Division which in normal times may mention the company but these are also not digitised.

A Battery was one of the batteries of 55 Brigade RFA , their war diary can be downloaded free at present if you registerhttps://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/2f56d55600ea4d27ad7c92be460f5152

https://www.longlongtrail.co.uk/army/order-of-battle-of-divisions/10th-irish-division/  scroll down to see the Ammn Park entry where you will note their history is a bit convoluted!  Wikipedia has this on 10 Div https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/10th_(Irish)_Division

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

I didn't even realise that it meant ammunition park.
Something to look into.
Thank you Max
