Can anyone please help with this poor quality photograph.  I would just like it sharpened a little and, if possible, lose the cigarette as this is intended to be part of a portrait gallery.  Many thanks.

Thank you John.  That is superb!  He was only 16 when he arrived in this country so he was too young to train as a pilot.  He switched IDs with a friend and so managed to train and qualify as a bomber pilot.  It was only when his friend was killed that the truth came out.

I have a memorial site for the men of his squadron and I have had to scrap his story when I found out about it and now I have to rewrite it and put the correct photo in place.

Thank you Trishanne and tomkin.  Your efforts are appreciated.  He was a truly amazing man.  When he started flying Wellington bombers, he was still only 17 and he was barely tall enough to see out of the windscreen.  But he grew in physical and reputational stature and became a highly decorated senior pilot.
