N.P. and N.R. in margin of a burial register

I have a copy of a page from the Tanfield St Margaret burial register in 1899 - its a one off so I don;t have the option of paging through the register to see if I can spot clues for these abbreviations in the margin.

Usual 8 burials on the page and only two have a notation in the margin. One says N.P. and the other says N.R.  The letters are clearly written and they do have the full stops after each letter.

Has anyone any ideas what these may have signified?

Is the abode of the deceased in the register?

N. P. could mean non-parishioner

Thanks for looking Tony and thanks for the suggestion.

Yes it could be I suppose, his 'abode' was recorded as 'Lanchester', though Tanfield was where he was born and where he was living for the previous 3 census returns.

I am trying to relate it to the N.R. for the other annotation - that burial was for a man whose abode was Busty Bank , which as far as I can tell was in Burnopfield Parish.

I just hate it when I don't understand things and I am rubbish with abbreviations. I like whole words , I have a fighting chance with those :-)

In that case I would guess Non-Resident.
Researching Penge, Anerley, (including the Crystal Palace) and neighbouring parts of Beckenham, currently in London (Bromley), formerly Surrey and/or Kent.

N.P. = Not of this Parish
N.R. = Not Recorded ?

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Think this is going to go on the long list of things that 'someday' I may again be able to access at an FHC and possibly find an answer.
I have asked Durham Record Office too, in the hope that they may know.

Will update if I get an answer.

and I forgot to update, but the kind staff at the Record Office did reply.
Sadly they don't know for certain either, so its one of those things where we may never be 'quite' sure about.
