Help needed with Ernest William Rowles picture please

The picture is of Ernest William Rowles born in 1897 in Birmingham.
He served in Mesopotamia in WW1 hence the exotic background.

I am hoping the photo taken in 1918 can be brought back to life.
It is so faded. I put my self in your hands.
