Hawick Parish.

Looking at Roxburgh, the birth entry that seems to match is  HOG, ANDREW born 13/09/1735 Mertoun 751/ 1022 but only lists the father as James and not the mother.

I think Skoosh might know, if anyone does. I'll draw his attention to this thread.

I am finding the records from this area and time period incredibly frustrating. Anything recorded seems to contain very little information. eg Baptised Andrew son to James Hogg - It's very difficult to say anything for certain. There are a few marriage banns that fit time wise.

I've been looking at Scottish naming conventions to try and narrow down the search. But because of Scottish naming conventions the names appear frequently - Cudy, however, does not reappear!

I am always amazed by the response here. Thanks for all your help.

Very strange, from Cudbert, maybe a female got her fathers name for some reason? or maybe a nick-name?
Cuddies can be many things, from donkeys to saithe. Hunch-cuddy-hunch a kids game ;D
 Not much help though!

Bests,
Skoosh.

I don't think Cudy Hogg is his mother's name. If it were, you would expect "&" before it. From what you can see of other entries, you'd expect a residence or occupation. Perhaps Cudy Hogg is a nickname. Caddie or caddy is a peddler or porter, maybe it's a form of that.
