Can anyone help with the mothers name here?

Old parish register 10/09/1793 Andrew Hogg, Death 789/40 82 Hawick

Andrew Hogg son to dec(deceased?) James and .... Hogg 58

It has me stumped.

It does look like Cudy. 

Whatisaname.net has it as a pet name for Cuthbert - but it would hardly be that  :-\

Yes. Not sure if I am allowed to post the full entry.

Below - Cavers and Child appear in the entry.

I would agree that it looks like Cudy. It's not a name I have come across before and a quick search on Scotlands People only brings up one result as a forename and one as a surname.

Some refs  suggest it's the  Anglicized form of the Gaelic Cuidightheach but not sure if that's male as well  :-\

I do wonder if it's a short name for Catherine like Kitty, that when spoken with a strong Scottish accent could sound like Cudy.
