Dennehy's
« on: Saturday 20 March 21 10:35 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I am newbie here :)

I've been doing research into my maternal grandmothers side and have hit a bump.

My GG was Katie/Kitty/ Catherine Dennehy 1898 born to Margaret Dennehy nee Hunt and Daniel Dennehy. They lived in & around Charleville, Cork.

In my research I found Margaret Dennehy/ hunt to be the child of Mary Leneghan and Dominick Hunt and was almost sure this was correct, however, her marriage certificate to Daniel names her father as Richard Hunt.

I can't find something that links the name Richard and Dominick and so can only presume they are 2 different people,  ??? I can't find anything linking Richard to Margaret other than the marriage certificate so I am not sure where to go next?

This is the census link to the family http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai001957171/

Does anyone else know this family? Any advice welcome  :D

This is the same family but is it yours?

Bridget b 1865 to Richard Hunt and Mary Donoghue (as Margaret)

Marriage of Bridget Hunt and Patrick Howard 1994 - a witness looks to be Dan Dennehy . Father Richard is deceased.

Thanks so much for your reply.  ;D

The marriage certificate you've provided is the one I am also working from and I am sure that is my Margaret.
I know for sure she died in 1955 as we have her funeral card she died in Newtown Barry 19th March and it states that she was 84 years.

The birth age for the Margaret you've found was 1870 so the ages seem to match! I think I may have skimmed past this before when searching thinking that read 1876 but not seen that the July touches the 0.

I think you may be leading me on the right track as in the items/papers I have are people with the surnames Howards who I presumed to be distant cousins, thank you

Births at that time were recorded ‘flexibly’.  :)

As you can see the birth was registered 9th August.

However, the baptism looks to be (difficult writing) 13th May. Baptism was more important than registration and registration was supposed to be within a certain number of weeks after the birth so sometimes there appears to be a mismatch.

This baptism record is in Latin:
13 th May
Margarita , Ricardi Hunt & Marie Donohue - Sp (sponsors) Joannis Donohue & Maria Gorman

Thank you for all of the replies.

On ancestry I found the following:

Name:   Margret Hunt
Gender:   Female
Birth Date:   30 Jul 1870
Birth Place:   Bruree, Limerick, Ireland
Father:
Richard Hunt
Mother:
Mary Donoghue Hunt
FHL Film Number:   101214

In the  Ireland, Select Births and Baptisms, 1620-1911 record.

Could the May baptism record still be accurate?

I wonder if you could help me with a second strand, Margaret (mentioned above, the wife of Daniel) in the 1911 census was listed as having 8 children born alive, 7 of which I have found. I know she was pregnant at the time of the census but I presume this would not count in the numbers. I know of the 7 children 2 died as children, but I am unsure of who the 8th child is, and they do not seem to be recorded on the 1901 census. Is there anywhere that's good for checking births from 1886-1901?
