Sorry-do you mean that they both died in the month of Dec. or Dec Qtr.?

Jardine-October 22nd, at Otley,Ann, widow of the late David Jardine, of Knaresborough, in the 81st year of her age.

Maureen posted while I was typing, but I'll post this anyway:

There are numerous death notices relating to Ann and Jane in Yorkshire newspapers from October (mostly) and November 1884.

According to these, Jane died 12 Oct 1884 at Grove Cottage, Menstone (= Menston) aged 44, and she was daughter of the late David Jardine of Knaresborough; and Ann, David's widow, died 22 Oct 1884 in Otley aged 80.

Later there was an advert placed by a firm of auctioneers for the sale of Jane's property, including household furniture, cottage pianoforte and modern school fittings.
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

Thank you,Arthur.

I didn't see anything that would suggest any sort of "mystery" involving Jane's death.

I guess the death certs would be needed.

Indeed - if there had been any kind of inquest etc I'd have expected to find some mention of it when I searched.

Many thanks Maureen and Arthur.

I had assumed 'December' having looked on free BMD and GRO; hadn't found the dates elsewhere.
I do find certs rather depressing but may order some more.

I'm glad to have a location for these people and the teaching detail as the photos had a Liverpool label.
To find (from someone in Utah!) that Ann (Hope) Jardine was my gt-grandfather's sister was very helpful, too.
