There is this interesting notice - is it your Henry Walter BIRD in 1897?

"Missing Friends.
BIRD. HENRY WALTER BIRD left England about 14 years ago for Australia, last heard of in Georgetown, Queensland. His wife is anxious for news of his whereabouts. If not heard from in three months I intend to marry again. Address Mrs. Mary Ann Bird, c/o Mr. H. Middleton, 4 Old-Sowcester-rd, Cotton End, Northampton, England."

Obituaries for him at the time say he was 77 when he died?

If age 77 is correct, so born c1858, there is a marriage for a Henry Walter BIRD (23, All Sints, Northampton) and Mary Ann HOLT (24, Far Cotton, Northampton) on 28 July 1880 at Hardingstone. (His father: John BIRD, farmer, her's John HOLT [his name is crossed out], grocer.)

Then there is an immigration record for a Henry BIRD age 25 (born c 1858) on the Roma to Townsville, Queensland arriving 26 April 1883. This would fit with the notice above.

Where do you have his birth in 1849, Lancashire? I notice that the index of his death registration in Qld has no parent's names included.

The registered children of Mary Ellen have the appearance of being illegitimate.  If you are also looking for information about her then one of the birth certificates will give you an age and place of birth.  You probably need to be careful with who fathered each of the children.

Thank You for the replys to my query.
It sure sounds like Walter Henry Bird in the Missing Friends notice.
The age 77 is correct for the obituary, as he died from a spider bite.
This perhaps fits with the suggestion that it would appear Mary Ellen children are illegitimate.
Certificates no doubt will confirm.
I agree the immigration record sounds to be a fit.
Another researcher, again no certificates.
The mining lease was this at Wolfram Camp? or just as stated

Jill

In the 1881 census at Hardingstone has:
Henry BIRD   23    Moira, Leicestershire  (quarryman)
Anne              24   Hardingstone
RG11/1541 pg18

In 1891, Mary Anne is with her father in Hardingstone at Cotton End
John HOLT      77   Stratton   (retired grocer)
Mary A BIRD  35  Cotton End   (grocer)
John                 9
George             8
RG12/1192 pg4

The birth registrations of the children can be found on the GRO with mother's maiden name HOLT:
Dec qtr 1882   George Holt BIRD  Hardingstone (3b/37)
Jun qtr 1881   John Earl BIRD       Hardingstone (3b/42)

This looks like a probable birth then for Henry Walter BIRD -
Mar qtr 1858  Henry Walter BIRD   Ashby de la Zouch (7a/92) mmn PARKER

And on 15 March 1897 Mary Ann BIRD (39, widow, father - John HOLT, deceased grocer) married Harry MIDDLETON (37, batchelor, railway servant) at Moulton.
