Update: just found birth cert that I ordered a few years ago. was registered in 1923. Born Date 1907.
No father.. Registered by MA Bywater (mother) Mothers Details MA Gadsby, now the wife of JS Bywater , A Brewers Clerk.... Any clue's there? Just wondered would JS Bywater's occupation normally be stated, as husband of the mother? Many thanks
The re-registration doesn't state JS Bywater as being the legitimate/biological father...

If I recall correctly, the '
S' in the registration no. is indicative of adoption although in this case it's not obvious whether it was a legal adoption by JS or simply because of the change of circumstances & surname of the mother?
Maybe AntonyMMM can explain?
It would be normal for the husband's occ. to be included.
