hi kirsty,if you don't mind telling your Grandad's name and possible place of residence there may be a chance our member's can chance on some information. It's always risky trying to ID medal ribbons as
most of these WW2  portraits were colourised as opposed to being taken in colour so they were not
always accurate,

Hi there,

His name was Albert Whittaker (no middle name) so very common! He was born in 1917 in Wolverhampton. Thank you for the information on the ribbons also that's helpful to know!  :)

You apply for service records here:
https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records/apply-for-someone-elses-records
And pay £30.
Then wait. I think there is approximately a twelve month wait at the moment from what others have been saying.
All worth it I think.

Father in law who was in Royal Signals in Burma had the slouch hat.

Hi Ruskie, thank you and thanks for the link. I think it will be worth the wait whatever comes back because at the moment I don't know anything at all really. Thanks!  :)

Hi Kirsty

If you are on Facebook there is a good group called 'WWII Burma Research Group'.  Very helpful and lots of others doing the same as you.
