Brickwall - Birkett Family

Hi everyone,

I am new to RootsChat! I have been researching the English side of my family for some time now and I have hit several brickwalls, so I am posting to see if anyone can offer any kind of guidance or knowledge on this side of my family:

My g-g-g-g-grandfather was named George Birkett, born about 1821 in Stockport, Cheshire (found in the 1861 census). He was married to my other grandmother named Elizabeth, but I do not know her maiden name. They had several children: Maryann (born 1854), Samuel (born 1855), Ellen (born 1858), John (born 1860), Joseph (born 1862), and Thomas (born 1867).

I cannot find any records associated with George or his wife Elizabeth besides the 1861 census. If anyone has any information or guidance on what I can do to find George and Elizabeth's parents I would greatly appreciate that. Thankyou so much!

George Birket baptised 27 May 1821 Stockport St Matry. Father Joseph Birket a Hatter of Hillgate.

Marriage 31 May 1852 George Birkett aged 30 married Elizabeth Smith at St Thomas, Heaton Norris. Her father was a Labourer called Joseph and his father a Hatter also called Joseph.

Images of both the baptism and the marriage are on FindMyPast as is George's will of 1888.

Hi everyone!

Thankyou all so much for the help so far! I am so grateful and I have added everything to my tree. It makes sense that Joseph Birkett would have died in 1833 because Mary was living with her son Thomas and his wife in the 1841 census as you have provided Trish

I am keen to find the maiden name of Mary Birkett and the identity Elizabeth Smith's mother, especially because the census says Mary wasn't born in the county. Is there anymore information about them that anyone can provide? The English side of my family isn't my strong suit and I don't have many resources at the moment, but of course, if there are no more documents than that is okay, everyone here has already helped me so much

There is a possible Marriage on F/S.Org Cheadle, Cheshire 17 Dec 1805 for a Joseph BIRKETT to Mary KENT.

I cant see this Marry in 1851 Census though to see her yob/pob to confirm the above Marriage
