William still occupied the entire townland in 1853, as shown by Griffiths Valuation.

By December 1859 William has been promoted to esquire, when the papers reported the marriage of his "only daughter".
The marriage registration can be seen here:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1859/09580/5473744.pdf
I must say that Sophia rather let the side down by describing herself and her father as mere farmers!

That their marriages and deaths were reported in the papers in the 1830s and 50s, and that they are described as esquires and Mr, showe the family were considered to be minor gentry.

This link will return Higginbotham BMD registrations in the Wexford SRD, to 1900.

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-perform-search.jsp?namefm=&namel=higginbotham&location=Wexford&yyfrom=&yyto=1900&type=B&type=M&type=D&submit=Search

You can of course extend the dates later, if wished.

Thank you Wexflyer. This is all very helpful. I spent this morning looking thru all of the records for Higginbothams at the links you provided.

I am interested if there is any connection between Thomas Carthy / Cartor /Carty , who was my great grandfather and the discussed Higginbotham. In 1901/1911 Census records, Thomas Carty is owner and occupier of the same farm in Coolnastudd mentioned above near Gorey town, also Coolishal House. Farms remained in Carty family ownership until about 2013. Higganbotham Flusk and then Thomas Cartor is listed as Lessor of Coolnastudd and Coolishal House and farm until about 1900.

I wonder if Cartor is a different spelling of the name Carty, and a relative of Thomas Carty?

On the other hand his wife was called Sarah Burk, daughter of John Burk of Boley, Ballycanew, married in Camolin RC 1869 aged 19. She had a (twin) sister Catherine married in Camolin RC to Patrick McDonald, son of Matthew Tomkyle or Tomcoyle, Ballycanew.

I have spent year trying to establish origins of Burk family, one of my theories is could they be John Burket's family of Ballydaniel, Camolin who were baptised as adults in Ballyoughter.RC.
