Mystery house ‘Gladwynn’ Bromley Kent Lookup..
« on: Wednesday 24 March 21 16:49 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone,
I’m trying to assist in reuniting a large family photo album to descendants and don’t have many clues.. a lot of the photos were taken at a house called ‘Gladwynn’ believed to have once stood on Cromwell Avenue, Bromley in Kent. The album was a gift to ‘Gladys’ around 1903 and I would ask if anyone could help by looking on the 1901 & 1911 census to try and locate the residence and a bonus if a Gladys is an occupier. Many thanks in anticipation
Kind regards Jayhen

Here is Gladwyn in 1911 (Gladys is aged 21)

The name of the house isn't on this record, but it is in the Enumerators Book as being occupied by a Mr Simon.

Well found JenB; I wonder if the 'wyn' part of the house name came from husband's middle name of Victor  ???

They were newly weds at the census:
Marriages Mar 1911
Cooper    Gladys M        Kensington    1a   147
Hallward    Frederick C L        Kensington    1a   147
Ker-Seymer    Winifred C        Kensington    1a   147
SEYMER    Winifred C K        Kensington    1a   147
Simon    Charles V        Kensington    1a   147

ADDED: Possible children:
Births Mar 1912
Simon    Rodney H B    Cooper    Bromley    2a   1062
Births Sep 1913
Simon    Helen M P    Cooper    Bromley    2a   1081
Births Mar 1919
Simon    Barbara E    Cooper    Bromley    2a   6_8

The numbering sequence in the enumerators book for Cromwell Avenue in 1911 is

1,2,3,5,6, Cottage Hospital, Gladwyn, which gives you something to work on.

Thank you so much up to now Josef & Jen b.. certainly a good start!., I wonder if the house was a new build or was it present on 1901 census. The map link on first post is Cromwell Road.. once again many thanks for your assistance. There are also photos taken in Singapore and other locations to add to the mystery..

In 1940 the family surname was changed to Simon-Thwaites

The deaths of Charles and Gladys can be found under this surname, as can the marriage of daughter Barbara.

Josey, I hope you don't mind, but you linked to a Cromwell Road not Cromwell Avenue, Bromley.
Here's the side-by-side map. It was apparently originally known as South Hill.
