I didn't understand your last question and was going to get back to you, but if you've worked it out yourself that's better.
Yes, what happened was I put a screenshot of my settings page on here which showed back up was off, but it had my email address and other details on it. I asked the moderator to remove it.
I now know that the photo will appear in Gallery and Google but isn't automatically saved unless back up is on.
