Google photos back up.
« on: Wednesday 24 March 21 18:41 GMT (UK) »
I don't use this much but after some issues lately I backed up all the images on my Android tablet to Google photos.
Many were just screenshots .
I went to Google photos today to delete some of them but they've also gone from the Gallery, so Ive lost them completely.

Is this normal.

If you want to keep them you have to save them somewhere on your PC.  If you delete them from  your tablet or 'phone they are automatically deleted from Google photos.  You might be able to retrieve them if you go to the Google app and click on trash (or whatever it's called).  They might still be there, then you can click on them and restore them.

Just looked on my 'phone.  I opened Google photos and one of the options at the bottom of the screen is Library.  Click on that and you'll find bin.  All your deleted photos should be there.  Good luck.

You're a star, just restored them and all back in both places. That will teach me to mess around with stuff I don't understand.
On Google photos I can see an archive tab, will that remove them from view into another place.
I tend to browse old newspapers and screenshot the pages to use in research,  I nearly cried when I thought they were lost.

If I delete them from Gallery do they go from Google photos as well, or stay there as backed up.
I really sound a bit dim 🙄

If you archive them they'll still be there on the photo app, you just recover them like you've done with the deleted ones.  I think if you delete them from Google photos, they'll end up in the bin again
That's why once the photos are on Google on my laptop, I click on them individually and save them to files on my laptop. Then it's safe to delete them from Google.

You can use Google Drive for cloud storage, it'll be available automatically on Android devices and you can also access it from a laptop or other computer.

Google Drive has a 15GB limit, unless you buy extra. If you hit that limit, Google will start reducing the quality of your photos.

So it is good practice to move your pictures somewhere where you have control.

Hi, I don't understand,  I go to Photos which is where the backed oones were stored,  but even though back up is turned off the images are still going there. As they are only temporary screenshots I don't need to keep them
Am I missing something.
