Certainly not!
« on: Wednesday 24 March 21 22:06 GMT (UK) »
I've just come across an entry in the 1911 census that made me laugh. In the column for "Infirmity," the head of the household wrote, "Certainly not," and then "do" (ditto) all the way down the column for everyone else.

 ;D

Regards,
Josephine

Carol - He was a lawyer, so I can imagine him being quite emphatic in court!

Ayashi - Ha!

My father in law once gave me an emphatic "Certainly Not" when talking about my OH's cold sore and I asked my FiL if he ever kissed his son on the lips.

"Certain Not" came his shocked but emphatic reply.   ;D

I hastily explained that as cold sores were often passed on contact, I meant had he kissed him on the lips when he was very young,.

Now that you've asked about laughter, I can't say that he did, although he was a very genial Geordie.  This was in the 1960s and I expect he and his mates down in the "Gentlemen only" bar at the local pub had a good laugh.  :D
