Thomas Harris
« on: Wednesday 24 March 21 23:00 GMT (UK) »
This man was my wife's maternal grandfather.
Born 21.08.1888 Stockton-on-Tees, died?
Married Mary Kemp (1890-1962) in 1907 in Stockton-on-Tees.
I've tried FreeBDM for a death date without any success. Can anyone assist please.

Are you certain about his date of birth?

Is he plain Thomas on all the records you have for him or could he be John Thomas?

Thomas Harris didn't have a son called Clifford as far as I know. The only Clifford Harris I can find was born in 1919 in Bristol!

I'm going to have to redo the Thomas Harris (1888-?) - Mary Kemp (1890-1962) family. They seem to have had an inordinate number of children. Any help would be gratefully received.

If you want your deductions reviewed,  then present the evidence!

Thomas Harris married Mary Kemp with the marriage recorded in the civil registers for Stockton district as taking place during the December quarter 1907.

The civil birth registers for Stockton district record the following children with the mother's maiden name of Kemp:

Mary M Harris -- March Qtr 1912
George W Harris -- June Qtr 1914
Alfred Harris -- December Qtr 1918
Doris D Harris -- June Qtr 1920
Richard Harris -- March Qtr 1922
Susan Harris -- March Qtr 1924
Ernest Harris -- September Qtr 1925 (death recorded the same quarter)
Lawrence Harris -- September Qtr 1926
Kenneth Harris -- September Qtr 1928
Joan Harris -- March Qtr 1930
Margaret Harris -- June Qtr 1935 (she was in the family home when the 1939 National register was taken, her DOB is shown as 16 April 1935)

Although the 1939 National Register records a Clifford Harris in the family home, there is no trace in the civil registers for a birth in 1919. There is a Clifford Harris registered in the Stockton district registers in the June Qtr 1918 but the mother's maiden name is shown as BOE. There is also a Clifford G Harris registered in the December Qtr 1920 but the mother's maiden name is shown as RIGG. This leaves a question of who was the Clifford Harris in the family home when the National register was taken.

I have a Thomas Donald Harris 1908,  George Harris 1914 and a Rose Harris 1939 (died age 3 wks the same year).

Clifford Harris must be a coincidental visitor unless Thomas played away!

Perhaps he was a cousin or some other relative?

You would need to check the other Clifford births you have found to see if you can trace them.

His father may have been a brother to Thomas - do you have him as a child with siblings to see if one of them married a BOE or RIGG to produce a Clifford.
