During this incursion, a distinction was added to Private William West’s service record for gallantry (SG) for the service he rendered at this moment in the byre.  Offered probably for killing Toulouse and recommended to Dashwood in the Bruxelles hospital (alongside Capt. Evelyn) by Captain Erlington, who had been in charge of the group in the byre.

Yes Bearkat..., I'm the author.  But for my 2022 Volume-2, and concerning the Ministry of Defence with my ambition of recovering the 34 Waterloo Medals (for which William received one) the court will need a maximum of information.
In fact, the situation goes much further.  William managed to get back to the farm thanks to his Sergeant, who was subsequently Court-Martialed. (300 lashes and used as a scapegoat for bad tactics on the part of a Lt. Col. - a friend of Wellington)

William's distinction is also linked to another Sergeant in the byre. (Sgt Fraser depicted in the painting in the SG Officer's Mess)  His distinction and the Fraser/Cubičres event are connected.  I belie it was Fraser (the most decorated soldier in the UK Army) who provided the information to RHQ concerning West's gallantry.  And that info could be in West's papers.
Thank you for that.

There is a report in The Bath Chronicle & Weekly Gazette on 5 June 1834 of a William West from Warminster who was one of those "discharged  during the last month from the Bath Hospital and who have derived great benefit from the use of the Bath Waters". He was "much improved " and had "rheumatism".

Might be of interest?

Hmmm...  'My' William West's number is 98.  Could this be the reason why Bath isn't mentioned on any of my 3 pages ?

Djm..., thank you.  Amazing..., if it's the same man.  I'm a bit of a lame duck for the time being, as my British Newspaper Archives subscription is also reacting like FindMyPast. (worked for Ancestry but not the two others)

This could be very interesting to help me sort out my Wests.  N°97 and N°98.

No. 98 Sergeant William West, same attestation date.

Thank you Bookbox…
I should have noticed that I didn’t have that first page.

Amazing…, linked to Djm’s newspaper find, this indicates that the Medical Officer probably advised the Bath Hospital to help cure his health problems.
Being on the other side of the country, this will help me to track him down.

Thanks everyone for your help.  Very kind of you all.
Kind Regards…, Iain.

Possible 1791 baptism for your William West?

Free search FindMyPast world records:
This free search usefully shows parents’ first names.

Kent baptisms:
https://search.findmypast.co.uk/search-world-records/kent-baptisms

Kent marriages:
https://search.findmypast.co.uk/search-world-records/kent-marriages-and-banns

Kent burials:
https://search.findmypast.co.uk/search-world-records/kent-burials

Higham Park is within the Parish of BRIDGE.

Genuki Kent, Parish = BRIDGE:
Gazeteer, shows distance from BRIDGE:
to Canterbury = 3 miles
to Ickham = 3 miles

Baptism search for BRIDGE, St. Peter (1791 +/- 10 years):
Family name, WEST:
Results = no baptisms with the family name of West.

HOWEVER:
Baptism search for ICKHAM, St. John (1793 +/- 10 years):
Family name, WEST:
Results = 9 baptisms, father = Thomas

1791, WILLIAM WEST baptised in ICKHAM, Kent,
father, Thomas
mother, Thomasin/Thomazin/Thomazine

Parents buried in ICKHAM (father, 1842 & mother, 1852)
Parents present in 1841 & 1851 censuses
Parents married in 1784

ICKHAM is within Registration District of BRIDGE

I haven't looked at the Census or Baptism or Marriage details re. occupations, etc.
It might give some clue as to whether father, Thomas, was working in Higham Park.

With so many siblings there may be many people already researching this family tree?

Update:

Familysearch.org

free search (Canterbury Parish Registers) gives baptism date of 2 January 1791,

So this William West was definitely born in 1790.
