Help with an Abbreviation - 'Comor' in Marriage record for Halifax 1732
« on: Saturday 27 March 21 14:24 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone please enlighten me as to what this abbreviation in a marriage record means?

I have:

Henry Bates of 'Comor'
and Susan Lister of Hall (which I assume is Halifax), but what is 'Comor'?

All the other listing that place in the list is taken as their occupation if they were of parish.
I don't think you are looking for a place but an occupation.
As Halifax was a large cloth making centre, could've been old spelling of Comber.
Dow/Dowe Norfolk and Suffolk
Mulley/Wilden Suffolk
Loome/lombe Norfolk

Agreed. Most likely a wool-comber.

I'd agree on both counts - Hall = Halifax and Comer = Comber.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
