Pte Henry Paterson, 2RS - Lisbon Maru
« on: Sunday 28 March 21 19:04 BST (UK) »
Hi All

my uncle Pte Henry Paterson 2 Royal Scots was sent from Hong Kong to Japan on the Jap prison ship Lisbon Maru.    on 1/2 Oct 1942 the ship was sunk in the S China Sea.    I have recently seen a doc dated 1944 that states he was killed in action but other POWs  are shown as lost at sea. Why the difference?
When I worked at Edinburgh Castle in the 80s I found it quite hard to get answers to any questions re the Lisbon Maru from the Royal Scots Museum and Regimental Headquarters in the Castle.  They quite honestly fobbed me off, most disappointing.

any help as always greatly appreciated

I have read the various books Tony Banham etc

Could it be that his body was found and identified and the others weren't so couldn't be proved that they'd been killed in action ?
