Help with a surname (Benningham?)

Hi all!

Looking for a little help reading a surname split across two lines of a catholic parish record in 1832.

My initial reading would be 'Benning-am', perhaps 'Benningham' with the 'h' missing. Thing is, I've seen this surname nowhere else in the local records, so I'm not sure I have it right.

Any thoughts and suggestions gratefully appreciated!

I see Bennig-am, but when writing quickly it is common to not form all letters correctly. Benningham seems logical.

This is so interesting to me.  My people are from L/Derry and my 2 x gt grandmother has a maiden surname of Bamingham.   Catherine Bamingham/Birmingham etc married John Harris and had three children Linsey Harris, Frederick Harris and Catherine Harris later Ramage (from Shanreagh out of Limavady)

One of her CB Harris'  granddaughters (Linsey's daughter  is named Catherine Bamingham Harris born 1862 and another granddaughter, the daughter of Catherine Harris Ramage ( my Grandmother) is named Catherine Buchan or Buchanan Ramage.  On her daughter's wedding certificate it is Bannigan, crossed out then Banigan inserted (this was on the church copy I saw in 1996).

The name Bamingham in not found anywhere really and we have thought it might be Birmingham. Your Benningham might be Birmingham as well?    or our Bamingham might be Benningham.  This family did not come from Shanreagh but away a little as my grandmother recalled her older sister going to visit the Harris/Bamingham family.

Although the capital 'B' looks similar to the other two on the page I wouldn't rule out Finnegan as it could be a fancy 'F'.

Looks to me like Bening-am, which nobody seems to have suggested yet. Obviously you would need to include variant spellings in any search.

Seems unsual to split a Surname, like that. If it is Beningam, I would have thought the last two letters could still fit in the margin, after Bening.

Is this any help. I think the large dot is an ink blot or similar, if you look at Maria the 'i' is dotted to the side. Are there some more letters after the main inscription or is it just a dirty mark?
