Elder family emigrated from Scotland to Canada
« on: Monday 29 March 21 21:20 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm just wondering if anyone has any information or any links to the following ancestors who emigrated from Scotland to Canada? By the looks of it my great grandad William Murdoch Elder was the only one of his family that stayed in Scotland.

The rest were:

Mother:

Mary Jane Murdock b. 5/11/1863 (Ire) m. 5/2/1880 (Sco) d. 27/2/1932 Canada

Siblings:

Robert Wallace Stewart b. 4/11/1880 (Ire)
Andrew Irvine b. 15/11/1883 (Sco) m. 9/9/1919 (Can), d. 1/11/1948 (Detroit)
Frank Kirkpatrick b. ~1882 (Sco) m. 9/9/1922 (Can) Not with fam on 1891 census
John b. ~ 1895 (Sco), m. 25/10/1912 (Can)
Daniel b. ~1891

I managed to find the various certificates through scotlandspeople and familysearch but any additional information at all would be great.

Thanks,

Alan

Hi,

Is it Robert Elder as opposed to William.

Ontario Death Record,
Elder, Frank Kilpatrick, b. Aug. 14, 1892 Glasgow, married, spouse Mary Isobel Dickson, d. June 10, 1944 Hamilton Ontario, occupation guard Westinghouse Co., father Robert Elder, mother Mary Jane Murdock, wife M. Elder was the informant, cause of death arterial sclerosis with occlusion, buried Woodland Cemetery, Hamilton.

Family Search should have this death but I can't find it.

Frank served with the Canadian Forces WW1, which give his dob Aug. 17, 1892, but confirms
his death as June 10, 1944. His file is very slow to load, 78 pages.

Frank is with Mum in the 1921 Canadian Census, Hamilton/Wentworth, Ontario
Elder, Mary, head. age 58, widow
Elder, Frank, son, age 28, drill hand
Swan, Jennie, daughter, age 26, spinner
Rogers, Robina, granddaughter, age 5
Elder, Annie, daughter, age 14

Hi,

On the 1921 census Frank gives his year of immigration as 1913, I think this is him on the ship
Grampian from Glasgow to Quebec arriving June 13, 1913
Elder, Frank, age 22, b. Scotland, driller, destined to SS Marie (Sault Ste.Marie) Ontario (which is
mentioned in his WW1 service file).

Returning from WW1, on the troop ship Belgic from Liverpool to Halifax arriving Oct. 7, 1919
Elder, Frank, L/Cpl service #55608, place of residence Sault Ste Marie
