One from me  Lovely picture, deserves to be framed and hung on the wall

Thank you tomkin :-) - for both this one and the smaller one.

It is a lovely pic, I have had real pleasure from it for many years now. Photos of people are brilliant but this one in their 'backyard' rather than a studio tells me so much more.

This branch of my tree lived there (or the very nearby area) for generations. Many were watermen or keelmen on the Tyne. I've sat and looked at this over the years and imagined them going down that ladder, and rowing down the Derwent to the Tyne to go to work :-)

Have you been to Dunston Staiths, Boo?  We used to go there quite often before this dread plague. Also, Watergate Forest Park is not all that far away.   

If you let me know roughly where your pic was taken, I'll try to get over and grab some modern pics when we're allowed out!

PS - Tomkin might even have some old slides of here from when he used to roam. He's been to Tynemouth 

PPS - I see that I can drive down the A694 and look across to see if I recognise any buildings across the River Derwent

I remember the staithes still being being used Gadget (think they finally stopped in the 1970s? but that would be about the time I left home)
I think I may have Waterside marked on an old map - somewhere . . . I'll see if I can dig it out later.

ok so what I really need to know ASAP is when did your Lizzie's first husband die and was she ever 'officially' married to William Hails who used to be her boarder and then she claimed she was wed to him, but I think she was fibbing.
