This looks good.

1841 353/65/35
Rutland Street

John Mack   29 yrs Gardner
Bridget Mack 27 yrs
Margaret Mack 9 months

There are some births 1841-1851 for surname Mack
1843 - Daniel or David Mack mmn Lane with death in 1845

1846 - Ellen Mack mmn Lane with death in 1846

1849 - Ellen Mack mmn Lines

There are Mack families in 1851 so don’t know if the above are the right family

There is a death for Ellen Mackennedy in 1851, aged 1 yr. is she Ellen Mack maybe?

Birth already given
1851 Michael Mackennedy mmn Lyne

I can’t see a birth for Margaret abt 1840 and Betsey. (She marries as Elizabeth)

Does anyone know anything about Major R.Lomer, who had an estate in Castletownsend, Co Cork. who I understand employed McKennedy as his head gardener.

If that is your family, they were in England in 1841 and John was around 30 yrs old.
Have you searched for Major Lomer?
Where does the story come from?

I think you had found the connection in the 1841 census, when you wrote - This looks good.

1841 353/65/35
Rutland Street

John Mack   29 yrs Gardner
Bridget Mack 27 yrs
Margaret Mack 9 months

in 1851 The McKennedy family were still living in Rutland Street, Cheltenham.  Not sure where I got the info regarding McKennedy having been head gardener of an estate owned by Major R Lomer in Castletownsend. co Cork.  Then I see from my notes - Roman Catholic Parish of Kilmacabea, Driscoll Baptism Sponsors - NLI Film Pos 4771

That is why I was asking - from info already found.
He would have been young to be a head gardener pre 1841.

I really do not know the origin of this information. It may well be a red herring. I went to Mary Anns famous pub in Castletownsend, which had once been run by a McKennedy family. No proof of any connection. I accept that I will need to order a birth certificate for one of John & Bridget's children, so as to get details. I found in the 1861 Census for Cheltenham John M Kennedy - head - gardener - born Ireland 1816 + wife and 3 children. Could be an error with 3rd child called Michael Kennedy born Cheltenham 1853
