Richard Kedge circa 1643 Denham Area Buckinghamshire
« on: Wednesday 31 March 21 07:26 BST (UK) »
I am trying to locate a baptism record for him.
It is thought that he married Joyce (surname not known).
As far as I can tell they had two children.
Elizabeth Kedge Baptism Date9 Jun 1670 @ St Katherine Coleman, City of London.
Joyce Kedge Baptism Date8 Aug 1672 @ St Katherine Coleman, City of London.
Any assistance will be appreciated

FreeREG has some Denham records (Marriages only so far) and there is a Richard who married Susannah Hankins 06 May 1689.

There are some wills of Kedge in Denham that might provide more information:

Jane Kedge of Denham, widow, 1715
Richard Kedge of Denham, hoopshaver, 1726
Thomas Kedge of Denham, carpenter, 1731
William Kedge of Denham, yeoman, 1736

Not sure what a hoopshaver is.

On edit: a hoop shaver is a hoop maker, for making barrels.

A bit earlier, there are also two PCC wills, available from Ancestry and TNA Discovery:

Thomas Kedge, of Denham, timberman, 1658
Thomas Kedge, of Denham, yeoman, 1690

And:
Richard Kedge, of London joiner, 1688 (wife Joyce, children Elizabeth, Joyce)
Joyce Kedge, of St Gregory, London, widow, 1694 (children Elizabeth, Joyce)

In the will of Thomas Kedge, of Denham, timberman, 1658, he mentions daughter Joan, youngest son Richard (not yet 21), eldest son Thomas, and wife Joan.

Hello trish1120 and Vance Mead,
Thank you both for your replies. I am aware of the details you have both given.
Richard as mentioned was a joiner. A Richard Kedge is also recorded as carving the font cover for St Nicholas Cole Abbey, London, the first church restored and rebuilt by the office of Sir Christopher Wren after the great fire of London.
I will continue to look for a baptism record.
Once again thank you for taking the time and trouble to reply.

Given the occp Timberman of Thomas Kedge who died 1658 it not a stretch to think that his Son Richard may have been a Joiner.

Thomas married Joane PRATT 29 Apr 1627 Denham.

not sure if it's of any help - but gives his birth as 1st February 1643...
tree looks a bit iffy to me because it also has a sibling RICHARD 1629-1682

https://gw.geneanet.org/kelsasmith?n=kedge&oc=8&p=richard
........................
That is the first birth during the English Civil War I have seen in my research - 1642-1651
without sounding stupid - would church baptisms have been reduced because of the War - and - would they all have survived ?? did Cromwell burn any church records  ?  - I know Charles 2nd later took the throne
