Richard Lumley is my 5th G Grandfather.
I have found he married Isabel Emmerson in 1736 and they had 2 daughters Jane and Margaret. The two daughters both married Oxleys who are the link to my G grandmother... we have notes left by previous generations that the two sisters were nieces of Lord Lumley ( no first name given annoyingly!) and were cut off for marrying beneath them.
Their new husbands were poor Essex people.. all a bit strange how that came about as they were a Yorkshire family.

However I digress, I am trying to work out who was Margaret's  Uncle Lord Lumley at that time. Facts I have so far:
her father: Richard Lumley b 1711/12 Hornby. Married Isabel Emmerson 1736 d 1751 Bedale

Daughter Margaret Lumley b 1739. Baptised Patrick Brompton, Yorks
Married William Oxley 1763 Hornchurch Essex.( my 4th Grandfather)
Died 1809 buried Hornchurch Essex.

daughter Jane Lumley b 1743 Patrick Brompton
Married John Oxley Hornchurch Essex 1767 ( My 4th G uncle)
Died 1811 Essex

EDITED TO ADD; HON FRANCES LUMLEY  was witness at this wedding, she must be the link?
---------------
Richard Lumley's father
George Lumley b 1679 North Allerton
1711 he married Margaret Haw in Fingal and died 1730 Brompton Patrick.

Richard's siblings all born Yorkshire:
George b 1713 Hornby
Christopher 1717
John 1719
Thomas 1726

I now have brain fog and cant calculate, is it one of Richards siblings that was Lord Lumley, or must i go back to George Lumley b 1679.. one of his siblings or have I just lost the plot entirely?  ::)
I do have his George's male siblings:
Thomas b 1678
William b 1674
Christopher 1668

Many thanks for any steering !

PS I am not in the Uk so sorry if i have posted in wrong part of Yorkshire forum!?

Another child;
WILLIAM Lumley bapt Mar 1737/8, St Mary, Hornby (Catterick), Yorkshire, North Riding
Father RICHARD
Abode Hunton
Fathers Occp Householder

A CHRISTOPHER Lumley bapt a son RICHARD 02 Nov 1751 same church.

Other children Bapt Bedale;
Parents RICHARD/ISABEL
GEORGE and BELLA 17 Feb 1750/51 (Twins)
Father a Blacksmith*

I did note that on 06 Mar 1726/7 bapt of THOMAS, his Father George was of Hunton and a Householder.

Burials;
St Mary, Hornby (Catterick)
Of George sons JOHN 1719 was buried 18 Dec 1721 and THOMAS 1726 11 Oct 1728
Now on both abode is Hunton, but on one George is a householder and the other a labourer.
A drop in income?
Wife MARGARET buried 22 Apr 1729

Everything I have found above is on FreeREG, mostly surname Lumley, some Lamley on records.

Have a good luck around on there as CHRISTOPHER 1717 was buried 12 Jan 1787 age 69 and a Labourer*

So I think you can rule out CHRISTOPHER 1717/JOHN 1719/THOMAS 1726
2 died young and one was a Labourer.

Of course I am sure people always want aristocratic connections and I have found a few myths that have been handed down, but notes written over a hundred years ago by different people seemed to carry more weight! Thanks for the above hints re children I will go back to those.

Have a look at the link above, might assist in chasing up the connection.

Thank you, I'm beginning to think this is another family myth, or they were cut off by their parents but their father was not a Lord.
