Fraser emigrations Edinburgh - Philadelphia
« on: Thursday 01 April 21 09:46 BST (UK) »
Hi, how can I check emigration records? I have a Thomas Fraser, wife Jane Glass married in 1857 Edinburgh. Looking at others trees on Ancestry they seem to have emigrated to Philadelphia with some of their children (not my Gt Gt Grandmother) There are graves etc in Philadelphia so seems very plausible but would love to research this further and find an emigration between 1881 and 1884 (when one daughter got married)
Thanks for any tips!

There is a  Thomas Fraser on the 1880 census Philadelphia Pennsylvania - born Scotland. basket maker.  Same guy appears on the 1900 remarried - willow maker.

Does this sound like your Thomas ?  You gave no birth years in your original post.  When was the last sighting in Scotland. ?

1837- in Peebles, I have them on the 1871 census as you say he was a basket maker. looking on your find a grave link, it says Jane Fraser (Roberts) was the daughter of Thomas and Jane Glass, so think I  can safely assume they emigrated, leaving 2 daughters behind. Thank you so much for your help, it sometimes feels you are hitting your head against a brick wall!

The 1880 census was June 1880 so Thomas was on his own at that date. Census for Thomas and Jane both indicate 1880 for the immigration year, so later than June 1880 perhaps ?

You will notice that Jemima married 21 October 1884 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Henry J Page.

It may be that they all travelled at different times ?

Added -  Looks like Jemima Fraser - aged 20 years - Glasgow to New York on the Anchoria 31 May 1882.
