Edinburgh Parish Baptisms
« on: Friday 02 April 21 13:05 BST (UK) »
My great grandmother's brother, James Hamilton,  was born, according to familysearch.org,  on the 2nd October 1867. The baptism was in Edinburgh Parish with parents Robert Hamilton and Christina Bryce which is correct. However, there does not appear to be any entries on Scotland's People for Edinburgh Parish. There is an entry for a James hamilton in St. Andrew Edinburgh. Is that the same? I have spent a fortune in the past on the wrong records and don't want to make another expensive mistake.

Brillian! Many thanks. I would never have found it and spent loads of Scotland's People credits. Now I know they lived at Dr. Beggs Buildings which were apparently tenements that  stood in in the Abbey Hill area of Edinburgh.

I appreciate your help.

The old tenements were demolished around the 1950's or so - if memory serves me correctly. They were on Lower London Road.

Use google maps and look at the new housing on Sunnybank Road and Dr Begs Buildings stood in that area.

Thanks for that. I will look at that to establish the location.

Dr Beggs Buildings were  few hundred yards west of the west end of Lower London Road at Abbeyhill. See the map at the link here showing a comparison of old and current maps on the NLS website.

Thank you so much for that. The maps were extremely helpful to show me the location of Beggs Buildings.
