Christina Sinclair (Ford?) Brown - Abt 1869 - 1894
« on: Saturday 03 April 21 05:38 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm trying to track down anyone who knows more about Christina Brown. She had several children with my great great grandfather before she died and he subsequently had my great grandfather with another woman. I cannot find her birth certificate, and I cannot find a marriage certificate between her and my gg grandfather. There is a location and date listed on the birth certificates of their children (although it's a different date on each of the three children). I also haven't been able to find a birth certificate for their eldest child. Below is what I know:

Father: Robert Brown, joiner (Abt 1838 - ?), son of Robert Brown and Margaret Brown (m.s. Dixon)
Mother: Christina Sinclair, (Abt 1841 - ?), daughter of David Sinclair and Margaret Sinclair (m.s. Turner (?))
Parents married 24th Sept 1858, Aberlady

She supposedly married Sydney Hoskin April 1888 or September 1884 or October 1886 in St Saviour Church, Dartmouth but I have checked the records and couldn't find anything.

Sydney and Christina had four children:
Sydney Hoskin (1889 - ?) - can't find any record of his birth
Christina Sinclair-Bailey Hoskin (1890-1914)
Robert William Hoskin (1893-1966)
Harriet Maggie Hoskin (1894-1895)

It seems that Christina died shortly after giving birth to Harriet after experiencing complications.

Does anyone have any more information?

Thanks!

What is your source for this information? -

"Father: Robert BROWN, joiner (Abt 1838 - ?), son of Robert BROWN and Margaret BROWN (m.s. DIXON)
Mother: Christina SINCLAIR, (Abt 1841 - ?), daughter of David SINCLAIR and Margaret SINCLAIR (m.s. TURNER (?)
Parents married 24th Sept 1858, Aberlady"

You have these three birth certificates?

  Christina Sinclair-Bailey HOSKIN (1890-1914)
  Robert William HOSKIN              (1893-1966)
  Harriet Maggie HOSKIN              (1894-1895)

For each, can you give the birth place and date, date and location of the marriage .......and name the  informant.

What age do you have for Christina?

Amazing, thank you. I was sure I'd searched for a Christina Brown in Aberlady and came up with nothing but I must have had an incorrect filter on the year when searching.

The information on her parents came from the only marriage certificate I found on Scotland's People for a Robert Brown and Christina Sinclair. I'd taken the parents names from her death certificate. She died Oct 27th 1894 from a puerperal (?) fever which I understand to be caused by problems in childbirth. The informant on the DC was Sydney Hoskin in Partick. Christina died fairly young at the age of 25. Her daughter Christina also died young at only 22 (I have death certificates for both).

I have the birth certificates for the other three children, available here https://imgur.com/a/rNq4uIT. Sydney is the sole informant for all births.

Sydney married again twice after his supposed marriage to Christina and I have both of those. I think he lied about his father's occupation on those so he may have lied on some of these certificates also.

Thanks again for your help
