Thank you JM, the info you have supplied has been filed for further reference, very interesting subject on William Tipple Smith, at least now he will be recognized for finding the gold at Bathurst, and great to see a headstone with the details.

I think this is possibly the signature of FGD Smith (junior, as the father is noted as deceased) as a witness to the 1922 marriage of his sister Lily Florence to Edward Lawrence Judge. (register image on Ancestry)

It may be of use to compare with signatures on attestation forms

The D may be only half-formed, making it look like an L?
