Douglas James Rowles in hospital blues needs improvement please

Douglas James sustained some awful injuries in WW1 and spent 2 months in Baschurch Hospital and many more months receiving treatment for his injuries. Although he must have been in constant pain he is remembered for being very mild mannered and always helpful.

This picture is somewhat faded and could do with brightening up.
Douglas is second from the right in the front row.

As the title says hospital blues, was the original posting colourised in some way?

The blue uniform worn by soldiers in military hospitals was known as the 'Convalescent Blues' of 'Hospital Blues'. Men arrived at the hospital from the front in filthy lice-infested army uniforms, and the Convalescent Blues were an aid to preventing infection and disease. They also identified the wounded soldier as the returning hero.
