Edward Batten Bristol
« on: Saturday 03 April 21 11:34 BST (UK) »
Hello
Hope this is the correct board

I would welcome any information on the family of Edward Batten, a Barrister at law of the Inner Temple London.  And his family .
He was baptised 21 June 1590 in St Edmunds Salisbury and died 1638 Bristol. I understand that he lived at Temple Street Bristol. His father was  Thomas Batten.

There are a number of trees on line suggesting he married a Mary Pitt but I don't know if that is correct.

Grateful for any information.
Thank You .

This weekend, Ancestry have a 'free weekend'

Have just called up

England & Wales, Prerogative Court of Canterbury Wills - 1384-1858

Name: Edwardi BATTEN (Edward Batten)
residence: Bristol
Probate Date: 16 November 1638
Death Year: abt 1638.

Just have a look, doesn't appear to be in Latin - but needs enlarging on screen to read it.

He talks about his Wife : Mary, + grandchildren.

There is also the

Will of Mary BATTEN, Widow of Edward BATTEN of Temple Parish, bristol: May 1644  Listed on the National Archives, (Prerogative Court of Canterbury) - so far can't call that up on Ancestry.

---

I've just Googled: Edward Batten Mary Pitt

and

Wikitree.com

has the transcribed

The Will of Edward Batten 1638 - WikiTree- where he mentions his cousins, Mr Edward PITT and William PITT

Thank You I will go looking. His wife Mary s will when downloaded (free from Nat archives at present) comes in a bundle of other wills . Any one wanting to look at it will need to look at package 4 of the downloads and pages 00466-00468 --its confusing to find at first.
