Morgan and Mills from Dundalk, mid 1800s
« on: Sunday 04 April 21 01:41 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I'm looking for the birth / baptism records of Bernard Morgan and Catherine Mills. I have the following information:
Bernard Morgan, Sea Captain, born C. 1865 in Dundalk. Father: Henry Morgan.
Catherine Mills, b. C. 1860. Father: James Morgan.
I have their marriage record, but haven't been able to decipher Catherine's place of birth/residency, and Henry and James' occupation. I've attached a copy.

Since civil registration of births started in Ireland in 1864, you will need to look for (probably) RC church records.

Lordship RC parish.....baptisms from 1838 to 1880
Variant forms of parish name:
Ravensdale
Lordship and Ballymacscanlon
Ballymascanlan

As a possibility to consider, note that a couple called Henry Morgan and Mary Mathews got married in Togher RC parish on 21 April 1854, they had a son Bernard baptised in Togher parish on 20 November 1855, the stated address was Annagassan.  I can also see a Laurence Morgan baptised for this couple in Kilsaran parish on 29 October 1861, and a son Andrew baptised in Togher parish on 9 October 1863.

Also baptisms for the following children to the same couple, since these were after the introduction of civil birth registration, I've included below the links to the relevant civil records, so that you can see the recorded locations and the father's occupation for yourself:

- Julia in 1865:

- James in 1869:

- Mary Ann in 1871:

- Catherine in 1874:

Maybe a baptism for Catherine Mills below, right sort of area for Jenkinstown (Lordship RC parish), it took place on 19 April 1856 and reads 'Catherine of Pat. Mills and Mary Sands Sps. Michl. Short and Mary Rice' (right page):

Possible death for Patrick?

Probable death of Mary Morgan (widow of Henry, a sea captain) in 1900.
Informant was a daughter Margaret Lennon.

Here's her marriage in 1877 to Peter Lennon.
