1845 burial but no certificate
« on: Sunday 04 April 21 10:14 BST (UK) »
I have details of a burial in 1845 in Rochester,Kent (Nathaniel Hardee) but he does not appear on the GRO index.

First time I've encountered this; did this sometimes happen?

As he is shown in the parish burials as being on a barge on the Thames, could his death be recorded in another register?

I have one where i found the burial of an infant daughter of my 3* great grandparents on 11 April 1841 but no matching death. Kept being drawn to a death with the same name and expected registration district in the following quarter so asked the GRO. Turns out it was the one i was looking for, registered on 2 July 1841.

That's him!  I was planning on ordering a PDF (working on a tree for a friend) but nothing...  even trying surname variations.  :(

Good thinking - there's a Nathaniel Hardy death in Chelsea in Sep qtr 1845, age 32. Does that fit?
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

I used the full year when I searched.......no success.

Unlikely as he had no obvious connection with Chelsea; age a few years out....he was 29 (shown on burial register).

Thereís a death in 3rd 1845 in St Lukeís Chelsea for a Nathaniel Hardy, aged 32, so close to the age on burial. Could that be him? Vol 3, page 36.

Edited - sorry didnít see this had already been suggested.

The burial register actually reads - On board a barge in the Rivers Thames & Medway. Perhaps on or around the canal? Chelsea seems unlikely.

You could try contacting the Medway register office for a local registration, in case it never reached the GRO?
