Baptism Ages
« on: Sunday 04 April 21 13:40 BST (UK) »
Hello all,

Would it be out of the ordinary for some one born in Ireland in 1833, to be baptised in 1838?

I can only find one match that fits names and it gives these dates.

Just wondering if im going wrong with it.

I don't know about Ireland, but I have a number of ancestors in rural England that were baptised 2,3 and even 5 years after their birth. I even have a family where they baptised all 5 children at once with the youngest only a few months old to the eldest being 9 years old.

Perhaps the first child died and the second one named after them.

Its my G G G Grandfather, Patrick. I have his marriage cert from 1853. His age is 20 so 1833. Born in Ireland. No area or town. His Father is Michael.

On looking through all the possibles it gives me a Patrick - Father Michael,  but year of baptism is 1838, making him 5 at Baptism.

There are 8 possibles, but only one has ML as father. all the others are totally different names.

Thanks

Darren

Are you able to give the surname and parish?
Were the family Catholic? It seems unusual, if so.

I dont know the Parish, or area, but i am guessing its Kerry.

His name is Patrick Falvey born 1833 and his father is Michael Falvey.

The wedding cert i have is from 1853where he marries a Mary Lundrigan (Also from Ireland somewhere) and gives only Ireland as "Born In"

He was married in South Wales UK, so left during the famine i guess. Lot of guessing i know.

Thanks

Darren
