Faringdon Workhouse Records
« on: Sunday 04 April 21 21:38 BST (UK) »
Hi all,
I have been looking for some information about an ancestor, James Sutton (1845-1874) who was admitted to Faringdon Union Workhouse I believe sometime after 1865, after a stint in the postal service. I was wondering does anyone know how/where I can access the admission records for this time or any records of his time there. Thank you in advance.

According to this site

http://www.workhouses.org.uk/ - go to the locations, county and then union pages

Berkshire Record Office hold some records.

This is their catalogue entry which might be relevant:

The record office is closed to visitors at the moment.

Thank you, for the reply.
I will certainly check it out. I live near Newmarket in Suffolk anyway, so getting there would be against  current COVID rules.
Thank you again

When the BRO are back open, it may be more cost effective for them to do the research for you.   It will be worth enquiring regarding their research rates.
