Balkans postcard
« on: Sunday 04 April 21 22:56 BST (UK) »
I have found, amongst many old postcards, a Christmas postcard to my grandad (John Gibson Fouldes) from his Uncle George. He calls my grandad "Little Jack" so as not to confuse him with my grandad's father also John Gibson Fouldes!

Anyhow I am assuming it is George Fouldes (brother of my grandad's dad). I am just curious is there a way to find out when he might have been in the Balkans during the war? I have to be honest I thought he would be posted in northern Europe like so many were.  I know there is a War Records website but all those details are behind a paywall and I don't think I am organised enough yet to use a paid service wisely enough! I know I would join and then forget to log on again until membership had expired!

Thanks in advance. It is so wonderful to have all these postcards and quite a few seem from the front line! They keep it very sparse but I guess they had to be careful what they said.

Anyhow cheers all

MJ
Fouldes.<br />Any area where our family are.  My branch started around Derbyshire, Nott's and Yorkshire.  We ended up in South Lincolnshire!  So yay!  Course any area with Fouldes in would help!  See my family tree below for what gaps I have!  Cheers!

Would also like to see any Beaumont's from Sheffield as I have lots of family photos & can't identify them!!

Fortunately there is only 1 MIC for George Fouldes (with an E).

The 1st. Btn. were in France from Jan.-Oct. 1915 when they were posted to

This George Fouldes was 1 of a large number of men who transferred to the E. Lancs.

MIC? Is That Medical Index Card?
So it looks like he would have been posted to the Balkans some time after October 1915. There is no date on the postcard or stamp. A lot of the war ones don't. I think they must have bulk sent a load back in big envelopes or something.

Thank you
MJ
