Hello,

Convict Frederick HIGGINBOTHAM disembarked from the ship Eden as an Exile at Geelong on 04/02/1849 and then travelled on to Portland Bay via the ship Sophia.   His sentence would have been completed on 13/10/1851 and therefore free to return to England.

He actually returned to England before 1856 as he re-offended and was sentenced to 14 years transportation on 11/08/1856.   He arrived in WA aboard the Lord Raglan on 01/06/1858 and died of consumption on 16/08/1860.

I cannot find any evidence in PROV records of how he left Australia and wonder if anyone has suggestions as to there being other official sources........I appreciate he could have "worked his passage".

For now thank you,

BAC3

Couldn't find anything about him going back to UK, but did find a baptism for him 28/6/1837, Sutton Cheshire, when he would have been about 10 years old-he was Wesleyan. Father Thomas and Mother Sarah Ellis. You have probably got this info.
Regards.

Hello paco,

Thank you for your post.

I have almost completely documented Frederick HIGGINBOTHAM, except for that one elusive fact, namely, his return from Australia.   I believe there must be an entry in the Passenger Listings ??? ::)

For the moment,
