Birth registrations 14 years apart.
« on: Monday 05 April 21 14:37 BST (UK) »
Freebmd,
Eileen B Gallagher mmn Cuthbert.
June qtr 1915, Grimsby.
Sept qtr 1929 Grimsby.

The parents married Dec qtr 1915 Grimsby.

GRO.index The 1915 birth isn't there but the 1929 one is.

I have Eileen in 1939 after her marriage and her birthdate is 21 May 1915.

It's a bit confusing.

It is showing that an amendment was done to it in 1929,  the ref to S29 against the first one indicates that .  It is probably to do with the parents marriage

If you look at the 1915 FreeBMD entry it clearly states "See S'29" = September quarter 1929.  If you click on the 1915 "spectacles" then you can see the page from which FreeBMD made their transcription.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

There is a birth registration in 1915!

June qtr 1915
Grimsby Reg District     Vol 7a, page 1193
Cuthbert, Eileen B    Mother's maiden name: -

The "-" usually indicates an illegitimate birth.
If the parents subsequently married, the birth could be re-registered.
This followed the Legitimacy Act, 1926.

It will be a re-registration due to the later marriage of the parents.

There will probably be an original entry in 1915 indexed under the mother's surname.

It's very confusing isn't it. I hope get yours sorted..
With this one it didn't help that the mother / bride was also illegitimate,  as was her own mother.  Thankfully it was in Lincolnshire,  this  family moved to Wales.
It could have been worse if they were all Jones.
