Birth registration names
« on: Monday 05 April 21 19:06 BST (UK) »
Just a quick question....if someones birth registration doesnt contain a middle name, but on a census there is an initial for a middle name, is that likely to be a transcription error?

The reason I ask, is Im doing a friends tree, and I was looking at a Walter Fowler, born 1895, birkenhead, cheshire.  On his GRO birth record mmn Roberts, there is no middle initial.  However, on the 1901 census, there is an initial J.  There are records for a walter J Fowler showing up as hints but there are also records for a Walter Fowler and Im trying to work out if the walter Im interested in married an Agnes Mulgrew and ended up going to the states or whether the walter Im interested in remained in the UK.

His parents are George Robert Fowler 1867-1937 and Sarah Agnes Roberts abt. 1869.

Thanks all

New York arrival & passenger list Nov 1912 give his father as George and same address as 1911 census. He gives age 20, name Walter Fowler. No middle initial.

Extra names are often added later, I have quite a few who added extra names when older, or even changed middle names. Some babies are registered without names, as just male or female, names added later.

Thank you so much for this.  So do you know if this walter is different to the one who married Agnes Mulgrew?

A couple of Naturalisation records for Walter from Family Search

Thanks for this, yes Im finding quite a few name changes or extra names, making it difficult to find records
